Arthur Lee Haisten is a native of Charleston, South Carolina. He graduated from the College of Charleston in 1943 then received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1947 from Emory University School of Dentistry. He later received a certificate in Periodontics in 1956 from Ohio State University. He also served in the Air Force Dental Corps for two years.
